Body Parts Discovered in Suitcases bought in an Online Auction!
Body parts of two young children have been discovered in suitcases which were bought from an online auction!
A homicide investigation was launched in New Zealand when the horrifying discovery was made last week.
Now, a postmortem has suggested the children were of primary school age – between five and 10 years old.
Offering an update on the case, police said they believe the body parts are likely to have been hidden for between three and four years.
Officers were called to a home in South Auckland last Thursday following the tragic discovery.
A family had bought the suitcases after purchasing a storage unit in an online auction.
They are not linked to the deaths and have been ‘understandably distressed by the discovery’, police said.
It’s suspected the children have family members in the country who may not know they are dead.
Investigations continue and the postmortem examination ‘is yet to be completed’.
There were household and personal items found along with the suitcases which could help in identifying the victims.
But investigators have admitted it ‘will be a challenge’ to gather evidence such as CCTV given the time period indicated.
Speaking in a press conference, DI Tofilau Faamanuia Vaaelua said: ‘Today’s update will be extremely upsetting for the community to hear.
‘A lot of us [police officers] are parents and we have a job to do and we’re doing our very best to conclude the inquiry and identify the victims.
‘No matter how long or how many years you serve and investigate horrific cases like this, it is never any easier to do.’
